Art Deco Taking its name from the Paris Exposition International des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes of 1925, the Art Deco style was the last word in design for a generation. Using characteristic geometric or stylised shapes art deco works and patterns, early Art Deco works were made of costly materials such as ivory, lacquer art deco works and jade, their ownership restricted to the wealthiest of buyers. Chiparus: Master of Art Deco by Alberto Shayo, Born in Romania, Demetre Chiparus (1886-1947) studied in Italy art deco works and France before settling in Paris, where he perfected the chryselephantine technique of combining ivory with bronze.
